3.) Lake Erie

Lake Erie’s pollution problem was so bad at one point that Dr. Seuss referenced it in his 1971 the Lorax in 1971.

“They'll walk on their fins and get woefully weary

in search of some water that isn't so smeary.

I hear things are just as bad up in Lake Erie."

Fourteen years later, Seuss agreed to take the line out after the Ohio Sea Grant Program wrote him and explained how much the lake had improved. Do you have an older copy that holds these famous lines?
