Family-owned Release Boats

Oversized, over-built & under priced

May 2017 Brady L. Kay

The term flagship refers to the ship in a fleet that carries the commanding admiral, but in this case flagship translates to Release Boat’s biggest and most impressive model in its lineup that ranges from this 30-foot center console high performance fishing machine to its popular Flats boats. The Opa-locka, Fla.,-based manufacturer considers the 301 RXS to be its top-of-the-line model and it’s clearly the leader of its fleet.

Recently the staff at Great Lakes Boating was given the chance to take the Release 301 RXS in open water with one of the company’s owners, Samer Hijjawi. Samer, along with his father-in-law Gerritt Walsh and brother-in-law Derek Ludovic, runs the family-owned business with their boating roots going back to the ‘70s.

The flagship model first debuted in 2015 and the RXS refers to the front seats in the bow and is similar to the RX version that is more open and doesn’t include the extra seating.

“The RS is more for cargo fishing with more room in the bow, but the RXS is for fishing and family, making it a great multi-function boat,” explained Samer during our cruise.

The family-friendly qualities carry over to the large walk-in head compartment built forward of the center console helm station. Included is an electric toilet with a holding
tank, vanity, overboard discharge and a freshwater shower and sink.
