MONTAUK, NEW YORK (USA) - GOST® (Global Ocean Security Technologies) is honored to be one of the sponsors of the Freedom Fighter Outdoors (F.F.O.) June 24-27 Montauk, NY fishing tournament for wounded veterans. This is just one of the many fishing events held by the F.F.O. where local captains and fishermen alike donate their time and personal vessels to take veterans and their families out for a day of fishing at sea. The F.F.O. aims to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for needs, services and activities of injured service members while providing unique, once in a lifetime outdoor activities to honor and empower our nation’s injured service members. Freedom Fighter Outdoors The Freedom Fighter Outdoors (F.F.O.) organization was launched in February, 2014 by Captain Vincent LaSorsa and his wife Sarah as the result of several successful fishing trips in conjunction with the Wounded Warrior Project (W.W.P). LaSorsa began the fishing trips as a way to provide veterans with quality time outdoors which he believed would help reduce the number of post-war suicides occurring within the veteran community. As the captain of Last Mango, Jimmy Buffet’s personal sportfishing vessel, LaSorsa made it his mission to help wounded veterans by providing them with an unforgettable day of fishing at sea. “So many veterans injured mentally or physically give up because they feel worthless and useless. Getting these veterans involved in outdoor activities and meeting other veterans they have things in common with is proven to reduce post-war suicide risk,” LaSorsa said. What started as a small project to help veterans in his local South Florida community has turned into today’s F.F.O. which holds several outdoor events each year and provides funding for airfare, lodging, transportation, and meals for wounded veterans and their families. The events continue to grow with the support of local captains, owners, restaurants, and friends. These supporters of the F.F.O. donate their time and money to events along the East Coast to help our injured veterans. The three-day event in Montauk will be taking 25 wounded veterans and their caregivers out on five boats for some striped bass fishing. In addition to fishing, the event will also include an introduction dinner, where the veterans are assigned to fishing vessels, a BBQ awards dinner with the top 5 prizes after the tournament, a day of horseback riding and relaxation (or another day of fishing for the avid fishermen), and an evening of live music.
