How To Make Boating Social Media Worthy

March 2021 Feature Emily FitzPatrick Web Exclusive

There are many ways to make your boating experience a memorable one, but social media can help you to take it to the next level, whether you be a novice, an expert, somewhere in between, or if you are a worker in the boating industry. Social media has the potential to connect us to the world even when it seems like we are a million miles away while taking the pontoon out on the lake for the weekend, making it seem like we never left those we love at home as we scroll through our Facebook feeds. Sometimes being constantly connected to those around you through social media can seem like a hindrance to enjoying your great escape, but in reality it can help to heighten your enjoyment of your boating experience and can act as a valuable tool for a boat salesman. The following are a few ways to incorporate social media into your boating adventures while still escaping from the stresses of everyday life:

The Visual Aide

Taking an Instagram-worthy photo will remind you of the fabulous time you had, allowing others to feel that they were present with you and create a deepening of relationships as friends are able to comprehend what you do with your spare time. It can also be a valuable tool for networking with other boaters that may have fun tips and tricks that you can use on your next voyage or you can use your pictures to sell your boat if it’s time to upgrade. It can be intimidating to begin using a social media at first, but with time you will become thrilled with the frames available for the picturesque landscapes you capture with your phone and the connections you forge with people around the world.

The Facebook Market

Facebook is the place to be, especially if you are in the marketing business or just looking to get some of your old valuables off your hands. According to Trade Only Today writer Wanda Kenton Smith, “About 62 percent of marketers consider Facebook their most important social network. LinkedIn followed at a distant 16 percent, followed by Twitter and Instagram. On the advertising front, a powerful 93 percent of social marketers deploy Facebook ads, and 64 percent of that group expect to increase their advertising spend in the platform.” If you are looking to sell your boat for personal reasons or if you are working in the boating industry, Facebook can help you to find success in your endeavors.

Use with Discretion

Social media is a valuable, but like with many things, too much off it can be harmful. If you are a dealer then remember to make connections with the people directly around you. Make your guests feel like royalty and learn from their stories, so that you can become the best possible resource for them. If you boat for pleasure then take the shots that will help you to remember your boating experience, but then go be in the moment.
