If you’re looking for a friendly and relaxed marina with great fishing and exceptional service on Lake Ontario, look no further than Hughes Marina in Williamson, N.Y. This marina is owned by Norman and Janette Hughes and it’s been in their family since the late 50s.

Hughes Marina is known for its peaceful and inviting atmosphere, and it has provided fishers and families with the perfect place to dock their boats and enjoy Lake Ontario since 1959. Plus, unlike many other marinas in bays, this marina has direct access to the lake.

Known for excellent fishing and fresh fruit in the surrounding farm areas, this marina is the perfect stop if you're interested in catching trout, salmon, bass or perch or maybe sampling some of the delicious fruit at the local farms.

A Welcoming Atmosphere

Janette Hughes explained that they have around 35 slips available for seasonal boaters along with a few set aside for transient boaters. They also have two boat launch ramps if you happen to be towing your boat by land. Then once you’re docked there, you can mosey on down to their office where they have some snacks, candy bars, ice cream, ice, T-shirts and hoodies available for purchase.

Once there, you’re also sure to be impressed with the marina’s incredible service. If you run into any maintenance issues with your boat, the friendly and knowledgeable staff will be more than happy to assist you. They pride themselves in taking care of their customers and giving you the best possible experience at Lake Ontario. In addition, they also offer boat storage if you’re in need of a place to keep your boat for the winter.

They have a small campground with 33 seasonal sites with full hook-ups and a few sites with water and electric for transient campers as well. Tent campers are always welcome too. Hughes Marina is also an official registration point and weigh station for the Lake Ontario Counties derby, known as the LOC derby.

To top it off, the marina sells ethanol-free gas for your convenience. “We’ve had some pretty big boats come in to get fuel here,” added Janette.

Fabulous Fishing

When you go for a visit to Hughes Marina, be sure not to forget your fishing gear because it’s a popular fishing destination and community as well. “Most of our people who have our seasonal slips are avid fisher people because this area is great for salmon and trout fishing,” shared Janette.

The marina also offers fishing and charter boats for those who don’t own their own boats. They have four charter boat captains that can take you and your family out for a fun-filled day of fishing on the lake. They even provide all the necessary equipment so you won’t have to worry about forgetting anything. Additionally, they clean and bag all the fish you catch at the end of the fishing trip. Now that’s what we call a no-stress experience!

Whether you’re taking your own boat out fishing or going out with the charter boat captains, you’ll be sure to have a fantastic time and make lasting memories that you’ll be talking about fondly for years to come.

Small Town Vibes

Hughes Marina is the perfect getaway if you’re looking to escape from the bustle of city life. The surrounding area is known for its small town feel and its numerous orchards. With that said, if you’re a fan of fresh fruit (and who isn’t?) then you’ll definitely want to stop by for some samples. Just imagine a day of fishing on Lake Ontario while enjoying some farm fresh fruit from the local area.

“The farmers around here grow everything,” attested Janette. “Cherries, apples, peaches, plums, apricots, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries—you name it, it’s grown around here.”

This beautiful marina offers a peaceful atmosphere with plentiful fishing opportunities and generous amounts of fresh fruit, making it the ideal getaway to unwind. If you’re ever in the area, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit.
