Lake Ontario’s Oasis

Published in the August 2019 Issue December 2019 Feature

Imagine this. You’re on a road trip to your favorite travel station and then boom...the inevitable happens. Someone needs to stop for the bathroom and then everyone’s stomachs are rumbling, so you decide to stop for the night. It’s time to find a place that has everything, so you scan the road signs until you find the perfect place, the one that has all you could possibly need for the night, and you dive for it, relieved to finally be off the road.

It can be a little more difficult for boaters to navigate and find places that suit needs that arise fast and furiously. So it’s best to plan now where you will decide to find oasis while cruising the Great Lakes, and Fair Point Marina should be at the top of your list.

The owner of Fair Point Marina, Tim Feagan shared,” In addition to serving the local boating community in Lake Ontario, we also serve the Great Lakes traffic that’s heading south or coming back from their trip. They need to get their mast put back on their boat so they can go onto Michigan, or wherever they go, and we do that each way.”

Fair Point Marina has seen boaters from a wide range of places stop through its harbor from boaters traveling to Florida and the Caribbean to those taking a short trip to Chicago. The marina happily offers to take masts down and ship them to the sail boater’s next destination, making the marina a key destination for those heading south.

Little Sodus Bay

Boaters from all over make it a point to stop by Fair Point Marina because of the simple convenience of its location. The marina is located at the point at the end of the land where it meets the channel that goes out to Lake Ontario. A park sits at the end, as well as the beach.

“One of the things I love about Little Sodus Bay is that it has enough things to do, but it’s not really built up,” stated Feagan. “It’s absolutely beautiful. It’s not over-commercialized, so a lot of boaters that come through remark on how natural and pretty it all looks.”

The lack of commercial development at Little Sodus Bay makes the perfect stop for boaters who want to get away from the world, but still have access to all of their favorite amenities.

Everything You Need

Fair Point Marina has all of the typical amenities boaters would expect to find at a full-service marina. The marina recently renovated their clubhouse, updating all of the bathrooms and showers. The marina also has state of the art Wi-Fi and upgraded to the latest technologies.

It also has a fuel dock offering both ethanol-free fuel and diesel fuel.

Fair Point Marina has its guests covered not just with its amenities, but also with entertainment, including dining, shopping, and a series of concerts called the Summer Entertainment Series. The Summer Entertainment Series hosts a variety of performances including live bands, comedians and magicians, providing the perfect atmosphere for boaters wishing to have a good time.

A Boater’s Oasis

The love that Feagan and those he employees have for their marina and the Little Sodus Bay area will have boaters always returning to Fair Point Marina during their travels.

“My wife and I are boaters,” said Feagan. “One of the things I like about boating is the people you meet along the way. Boaters tend to be of a similar mind in how they look at life and relaxation. They tend to be really nice, relaxed, easy-going people. It’s fun owning a marina where our job is to serve that group of people.”

Every boater wants to be welcomed by a friendly face and feel as if they are at home when visiting a marina. The attention Feagan and his staff pay to everyone who passes through their marina are sure to cheer up the gloomiest of homesick faces. However, it isn’t just Feagan’s care for boaters that make him an excellent caretaker of the marina, but also his attention to his employees.

“Over the years, we’ve met people at the marina who have become lifelong friends. Many of our customers are dear friends of ours. It’s the people that I like first and foremost and also as it relates to people the employees that work for us. We’ve been fortunate to have a nice group of people working for us over the years, and it’s been fun to work for them and see them grow and see their careers develop.”

Fair Point Marina is a boater’s oasis not just for the weary traveler, but for anyone looking to get away. So make the time to dock at Fair Point Marina and explore Little Sodus Bay. You won’t regret this pit stop!
