The Manitowoc South Pier Light was washed into Lake Michigan at around 8:30 a.m. this morning. Reports detail that heavy wave action most likely led to the loss of this lighthouse. The Coast Guard reports that there were no injuries.
All that remains of the lighthouse is the concrete base, demonstrating the destruction that can reak havoc on the Great Lakes when the weather takes a wrong turn.
