Legendary Waters Resort & Casino, Red Cliff, Wisconsin

Is it your turn to get lucky?

Published in the October 2018 Issue June 2019 Feature

Legendary Waters Resort & Casino not only has a hotel, restaurant, and marina, welcoming boaters from all over, but also a casino where you can see if the slots are falling in your favor.

The resort houses one of few marinas with a casino attached to it and plenty of amenities that you don’t need any luck to enjoy, including access to the hotel showers, hot tub, and pool. The marina holds a total of 45 slips, with 35 that are permanent. Though it is a small location, the marina welcomes boaters to pull up for the day and enjoy some time at their casino or eat at their restaurant.

A Different Kind Of Marina

Legendary Waters considers itself more of a docking spot than a marina because it lacks many of the things that full-service marinas provide, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a place worth exploring.

“We’re a full amenities resort. We rent out canoes and paddle boats. We’ve got kayaks launching off of our little beach all day long, so a lot of resort amenities and activities that most marinas don’t have, but we don’t have all the traditional service amenities,” Kurt Schmidt of Legendary Waters warns. “We don’t store boats in the winter time. We don’t store them, we don’t work on them, and we don’t take them in or out.”

No Need To Wait To Get Lucky

With so much to do at Legendary Waters, luck plays no part in having a good time at the marina, even if you are a total failure at cards. The marina hosts an array of events and not just in the summer time.

“We have ice fishing jamborees, and we have different pow wows in the winter and summer time. We have both winter and seasonal fishing contests, and of course, we have entertainment,” shares Schmidt. “Our summer concert series takes place right between the casino and the water. At the water’s edge we have a patio where we have live music every Saturday night, so a lot of the boaters will either come up to the patio or just stay in their boats and listen to the music.”
The marina is also looking to expand some of its winter events by adding an ice rink on the lake’s edge and a miniature luge run. In other words, their own personal winter wonderland for guests from all over to come and enjoy.

A Bright Future

Legendary Waters is looking forward to continual growth of its marina, especially since they will begin selling gas in the near future. The marina is hoping to begin sales before the end of the year even though the summer season will have passed.

The prospect of selling gas is especially exciting for Legendary Waters. They are able to sell it for much cheaper than anyone else on Lake Superior because they are owned by the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

“We’re a sovereign nation, just like a state. We don’t pay state taxes and we in turn can pass those savings on to our customers and be able to advertise and sell the cheapest gasoline on the lake, because of that tax advantage,” Schmidt shares. “So that’s going to be our game plan.”
