Head Downtown
If you’re looking to get away from the water for a spell, downtown Oswego and beyond has plenty to offer as well, with a wide variety of shops and restaurants to cater to your every need.
Oswego Mayor William J. Barlow says, “We have experienced resurgence in our downtown as new restaurants and small businesses occupy our storefronts, creating a vibrant and lively ambience. In addition, our events throughout the summer truly make Oswego an interesting place to visit at any given time. Moving forward, we are ambitiously working to revitalize our historic neighborhoods and enhance the natural assets our community has. We are beginning to capitalize on our world-class Lake Ontario waterfront and take advantage of our prime location along the Oswego River.”
Joy Of Music
For the music lovers, the city puts on a concert series from the end of June through the end of August that features both the Oswego City Concert Band and Jazz Band. These free concerts overlook Lake Ontario and are a great way to spend an evening. There is also the Oswego Valley Snowbelters Barbershop Chorus, the Oswego Music Hall and a number of other artistic and theatrical activities throughout the year.
February Festival
Finally, if you’re a little more cold-blooded, there is the annual Fire and Ice Festival every February that features local craftsmen, a chili cook-off, quilt raffle, the Hot Fun Run/Walk, Treasure Hunt in the Snow and much more to keep the cold at bay. Fair warning though, it can get really cold in Oswego, and it snows a lot. In 2007, it snowed 11 feet (yup, you read that right!) in a two-week time span. Bring your snowshoes!
