With the high water on the Great Lakes, homes and businesses all along the shoreline are a little more mindful of the potential dangers the water can pose, and the awareness of danger is the first and most important step to adequately addressing it. The Red Cross and their partners train more than two and a half million people a year in swim safety. Through these classes and programs, children, teens and adults can learn how to swim and become lifeguards or instructors.
“Now, we’re working to cut drowning rates in half in high-risk communities by teaching even more people how to be safe in the water,” Lauri Rhinehart, VP of Humanitarian Services, said.
