At the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Groupe Beneteau and its boat division’s 11 brand offerings – with over 200 recreational models – had plenty to showcase. The Florida show last November, affectionately referred to in the boating industry as FLIBS, has become the launch pad for new models and this global leader had plenty to talk about. Among the excitement within Groupe Beneteau is the growth of the PRESTIGE motor yacht brand, which now includes 14 models across four categories. At the show, the new PRESITGE 590 was just one of the new models launched, but clearly an early favorite for those who follow this brand closely.
For the 2019 season, PRESTIGE will offer a new Flybridge yacht with far-reaching scope with the 590. This new model concentrates all the latest evolutions of the brand while respecting the tradition and heritage of PRESTIGE yachts. On the exterior, this model boasts the signature features of the latest PRESTIGE models. In addition to immense continuous windows in the hull, the 590 features a wide forward hull with long, elegant lines.
Great Lakes Presence
You can add Kyle Stenzel, president of Spring Brook Marina and Yacht Sales, to the list of those most excited about the debut. Stenzel was lucky enough to sea trial hull number one in France and based on the nearly 60 PRESTIGE customers who have purchased boats through one of the five Spring Brook Marina dealerships, that list will continue to grow as well.
“The 590 is an evolution of the original PRESTIGE 550, which was one of our most popular sellers,” explains Stenzel. “The 550 afforded owners a ton of space, great performance, and a resin-infused hull providing a solid ride in our choppy lakes. The 590 took all those traits that the 550 excelled at and improved on them. This will surely be a great model for us as a dealer and any Great Lakes boater looking for a 55- to 65-foot cruising yacht.”
Spring Brook was one of PRESTIGE Yachts’ first dealers in the US after signing on with the manufacturer back in 2011 when the president saw a ton of potential with the line.
“They were building a high-quality motor yacht that offered an amazing amount of interior space for a European-built boat, while keeping the solid seakeeping traits you’d expect from a European manufacturer,” adds Stenzel. “We saw success instantly selling a 440s and 60 Fly within the first month. It hits all the hot buttons for Great Lakes boats: good quality, great space, great seakeeping ability and priced aggressively. We have really enjoyed growing the brand and seeing it evolve into what it has turned into today.”
Colony Marine, with three locations in eastern Michigan, recently added to its brand lineup and is now offering PRESTIGE yachts in the Great Lakes region as well.
“We consider ourselves very fortunate the PRESTIGE line was available within our market,” says VP of Sales Dave Giles. “We were looking for the same features that our retail customers desire: performance, state-of-the-art design, and excellent ergonomics, all at a valued price.”
Luxury At Every Turn
The foredeck of this model features a vast sundeck of the same size as the one on the PRESTIGE 680, which is quite impressive. Entirely adaptable to suit your preferences, this space can also include a drop-down table. And for even greater comfort, a sun awning supported by four carbon fiber poles can be quickly deployed to shade the entire area.
The cockpit is extremely comfortable with rounded, contemporary seating laid out in a cozy L-shaped design. A version with an aft skipper cabin features a mirrored glass window across its length. The cockpit bench seating is available in an extended “relax” sofa arrangement to become a true sundeck, the ideal spot for relaxation. The hydraulic platform and integrated automatic steps perfectly complement the refined and thoughtful design of this remarkable motor yacht.
The 590 displays the brand’s savoir-faire in creating comfortable, luxurious motor yachts. With the largest Flybridge in her class, the new model incorporates a multitude of spaces for relaxation, offering elegance and refinement. Forward, the Flybridge features a vast sundeck. Aft, you will find cozy bench seating and a large table, all serviced by a full galley. The helm station includes seating for two and flows seamlessly to the sundeck. These features contribute to an expansive living space for lounging and dining to rival that found on larger yachts.
“The advance production techniques that PRESTIGE instills in every model will deliver our clients exceptional quality at a great value,” adds Spring Brook’s Stenzel. “No other manufacturer has the sophisticated production techniques that PRESTIGE does.”
A New Vision
The PRESTIGE 590 cleverly combines a fluid layout for ease of movement on board and the most refined materials. The aft cockpit opens entirely to the interior living space. The absence of steps, the sliding door and the central galley constitute a new vision of life on board with complete freedom of movement. On the interior, the impression is amplified with over-sized windows and direct access to the wrap-around cockpit bar. The side door near the helm station provides ventilation and easy access to the exterior.
“The fit and finish detail is amazing,” says Stenzel.” The improved livability is right on the money and the addition of a side door was brilliant.”
Rounded furniture edges, comfortable sofas, cozy and inviting materials, and a layout featuring clear sight lines – all contribute to a sense of well-being and understated, refined elegance. The 360-degree view from anywhere on the main deck will take your breath away.
Thanks to clever engineering, the center of gravity is kept low for better seakeeping without sacrificing standing headroom and immense windows in the staterooms. The owner’s stateroom offers everything one would expect aboard a PRESTIGE, with direct independent access. Exceptionally bright, the master stateroom features a private, full beam washroom, as well as an adjoining spacious walk-in closet. Featuring an impressive distribution of space, this model boasts three staterooms with two washrooms. The walk-in closet of the VIP stateroom can also be configured as a third washroom, according to the owner’s preferences.
“On the docks at the Fort Lauderdale show, both clients and dealers were excited about the PRESTIGE 590,” adds Colony Marine’s Giles. “The PRESTIGE 590 offers several layouts with optional crew quarters or a tender garage. Her continuous window line delivers a very open and airy cabin. PRESTIGE offers every Great Lakes yachtsmen a true blue water experience.”
Powered By Twins
To propel her 61-foot length and offer exceptional maneuverability, a propulsion package of twin CUMMINS QSC 600hp engines equipped with ZEUS pod drive technology is the perfect match. The Cummins/Zeus joystick provides carefree maneuverability while including built-in autopilot and automatic trim tabs, as well as Skyhook dynamic positioning as standard. The pod propulsion reduces noise, vibration and fuel consumption. The 590 benefits from this perfect pairing of hull and propulsion system.
A jewel of technology, this Flybridge model is the first in the line to offer on board command and control via Ship Control. This networked system was developed in-house to meet the needs of the PRESTIGE owner. Ship Control puts all functions and system monitoring at your fingertips using the multi-function displays or even on a tablet or smartphone. This complete monitoring system represents a major advance in terms of daily comfort and quality of life on board.
Spring Broom Marina’s main location in Seneca, Ill., and services and assists the Chicago location. According to Stenzel, the Chicago market is its leading office when it comes to PRESTIGE sales.
“The harbors in the city all have high numbers of PRESTIGE owners in them,” says the dealer. “We have recently seen real success in Door County, Wis., as well and believe that store also will grow to be a very productive store. We are also working on expanding our Michigan presence currently and see that as a great spot for growth for Spring Brook and PRESTIGE. Our only problem will be getting enough of them in to sell.”

Bamps Named CEO Of PRESTIGE
In November, Erwin Bamps was named CEO of PRESTIGE, reporting to Jean-Paul Chapeleau. Bamps, 49, is a Belgian native who also speaks Dutch, and has a master’s degree in electronics engineering. He started his career in Asia with a Belgian electronics engineering firm before moving to Dubai in 1998 and then to the Philippines on behalf of a Chinese telecommunications conglomerate.
In 2002, he joined Gulf Craft, which builds luxury yachts and fiberglass boats. Though tapped to be head of its industrial and commercial operations, he quickly became CEO.
Over the last 16 years, he has driven the development of the brand, particularly in the Middle East and Asia, according to PRESTIGE parent company Groupe Beneteau.
“I firmly believe Erwin's industrial, sales and communications expertise, his leadership and his knowledge of the highly exclusive large motor yachts market will enable him to achieve these goals,” said Chapeleau.
PRESTIGE has a network of 200 dealers for its 13 motor yachts ranging from 42 to 75 feet, and the company appears to want to strengthen its position in emerging markets.
“The brand is widely recognized in Europe and North America,” added Chapeleau. “Erwin Bamps will lead its development in the Middle East and Asia, while continuing to strengthen its luxury position across all the markets.”
