(Lake Huron ) - American researchers find Ontario's West Coast is littered with plastic so small it's often difficult to see.

Geoff Peach of the Goderich-based Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation says the study reveals the Great Lakes contain the highest concentration of plastic pollutants in the world.

Members of conservation groups are worried about the effect of stormwater runoff on Lake Superior.

About two dozen people attended a meeting at Prince Arthur's Landing in Thunder Bay on Monday night, hosted by the North Shore Remedial Action Plan.

They were concerned about what's in the water running off the streets and ending up in the lake, especially after a rainfall.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but folks in Washington aren’t exactly getting along these days.

They couldn’t agree on how to cut the deficit, and now we’re facing automatic, across-the-board spending cuts from the federal government.

The cuts are scheduled to start March 1.

$85 billion will have to be stripped out of the federal budget this year alone.

It’s been nearly a month since a rupture in a pipeline operated by Enbridge dumped an estimated million gallons of Canadian tar sands crude into the Kalamazoo River system in the worst oil spill in Midwest history, and federal regulators have yet to approve a restart plan for the pipeline. The Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration, which rejected an Enbridge restart proposal earlier this month, has declined to estimate when a restart plan may be approved or how long the 190,000 barrel a day pipeline could be out of commission.

MONTREAL — A shipping accident caused up to 200 tonnes of bunker oil to gush into the St. Lawrence Seaway and had cleanup crews working Tuesday to contain the mess. A freighter carrying wheat ran aground the previous evening when it suffered engine failure near Montreal, said the federal St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation.
