NEW BUFFALO – The New Buffalo Harbor Commission dedicated most of its Nov. 7 meeting to revising the rules and regulations for the city boat ramp on the Galien River and discussing issues related to the rental of canoes and kayaks at the city beach.
“We want to discuss how we can fully utilize our boat launch to help our public get their time on the water and to help ourselves make money to be able to keep the boat launch in good repair,” said Chairman Nancy Smith in her opening statement. “We have the advantage of a harbor which attracts many visitors who come to see the lake and want to get closer by entering the boating world.”
Commissioners also discussed the pending lease with Ryan Gerard of Third Coast Surf Shop, which has held concession for watercraft rental at the beach. Although Gerard was unable to attend the meeting, Smith said she had spoken with him about his plans for ensuring the safety of both his customers and the other boaters in the harbor.
