Improvement project continues on the Lockport Lock and Dam

LOCKPORT — The line boat Dell Butcher pushes nine snow-covered barges along the gray waters of the canal, approaching the Lockport Lock and Dam on this cold and overcast January morning. Bare trees cover the valley surrounding this busy shipping corridor — the Illinois Waterway — lined with power plants, an oil refinery and other heavy industry.
