Federal stimulus grant to return Grand Calumet River area to nature

The Grand Calumet River area will be one step closer to its preindustrial glory in a couple of years thanks to a $1.4 million federal stimulus grant. The Gary/Hammond/East Chicago area has been plagued by industrial pollution for decades. In the last few years, industries and state and federal governments have focused on dredging the river of contaminated sediment.
