Great Lakes cargo declines in August

The amount of cargo moved on U.S. ships on the Great Lakes in August dipped from July but is well ahead of totals recorded in August 2009. U.S.-flagged ships carried just over 10 million net tons of cargo in August, a decrease of 5.1 percent from July, but an increase of 39.3 percent compared with a year ago, according to a monthly report released Tuesday by the Ohio-based Lake Carriers Association.
