Oil spill refocuses attention on Kalamazoo River pollution

MARSHALL, MI — At some point in the next month, the work crews will leave and the heavy equipment and oil-capturing material will be packed up and shipped out. Although air and water testing will continue for years, the oil from the recent spill on the Kalamazoo River — in which more than 1 million gallons of crude leaked into the river, affecting more than 30 miles of waterway — will largely be cleaned up, officials say.
