Dredging on Merrimack River to Begin Soon

An accelerated timetable has been proposed for clearing the Merrimack River mouth and using the sand to rebuild eroded beaches on Plum Island and Salisbury, prompting a new set of questions as the project nears reality. The newest issue for local officials: Can boaters and beach-goers coexist with a massive construction project right on the shore? Representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is supervising the operation, said yesterday that they plan to meet with the contractor on the job Tuesday to discuss some details of the operation.
