A long-running dispute between commercial and sport fisherman on Lake Michigan has been given new life after a Cleveland man fishing off Sheboygan died when his boat snagged a trap net and capsized. Three fishing and conservation groups filed a petition last week with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources asking that the commercial nets used for trapping whitefish be separated from sport fishing areas. They want the nets prohibited from June through Labor Day or moved to five miles or more from the Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Two Rivers harbors during that time. |
