A beloved Ontario bird that bounced back from endangered status may be flying to its demise when it heads south this fall — straight into the path of the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. For centuries the American white pelican has flocked to Ontario’s northwestern shores to breed, seeking refuge in colonies where hundreds or even thousands of birds may gather to lay their eggs. |
