The Waukegan Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 41-5 will be teaching classes on Boating Safety and Navigation during Summer 2010 at their Operations Center (9 N. Harbor Place, Waukegan, IL.). About Boating Safely $40 Saturday June 26th at 9am-4pm About Boating Safely is for recreational boaters (powerboats, personal watercraft, sailboats, and boats which are paddled), and for family and friends who go out with them. It is an interactive boating safety course. Completion of this course satisfies the Illinois and Wisconsin requirements for individuals age 12-17 to attain a Boater Safety Certificate which allows them to operate a boat without adult supervision. In addition, the course has been approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators. The course covers the following topics; Introduction to Boating, Boating Law, Boat Safety Equipment, Safe Boating Navigation, Boating Problems, hypothermia, boating accidents and rescues, man overboard recovery, capsizing, running aground, Trailering, Storing and Protecting Your Boat, Hunting and Fishing, Water-skiing and River Boating. Introduction to Navigation $25 Thursday June 24th at 6:30pm and is a 3 hour course. Most insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance to individuals who complete a boating safety course.
