Die-off of smallmouth bass likely linked to warm spring

Dead smallmouth bass are washing up on the St. Lawrence River's shoreline. Stephen W. Litwhiler, state Department of Environmental Conservation Region 6 spokesman, said his agency has received numerous reports. The most likely cause is a sharp increase in water temperatures caused by the extremely warm late spring.
