Salmon, trout population analysis goes high-tech

Most Lake Michigan anglers aren't concerned about whether a chinook they hook was raised in a hatchery or born in a river. It's the salmon's tremendous fight and delicious flesh they're after — and maybe a few friendly bragging rights now and then. Since chinooks originating from stocks in the Pacific Northwest were raised and released here in the late 1960s, anglers have come from far and wide for a chance to hook up with the "king" of salmon.
