Canadian Coast Guard too often taken for granted
Most people have noticed the office building in Northgate Plaza, and we spot their distinctive red ships in the river every so often. But ask the average Sarnian about the Canadian Coast Guard and many are surprised to learn their city is headquarters for the coast guard's entire Central and Arctic Region, a vast area stretching from Quebec to the Rockie Mountains to the North Pole.
