On further review, we're no longer as upset as we were when we first learned President Barack Obama is proposing a 37 percent reduction in the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The $475 million restoration program was the biggest proposed investment in the lakes ever made by a president. The Interior Department spending bill approved for the current fiscal year contained the full funding amount. But the president's budget pared that down to $300 million. |
