OUR VIEW - Risk is too great: Close canal locks

There’s a growing consensus among public officials and environmentally aware citizens around the Great Lakes that the man-made link between the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan must be severed, at least temporarily, to stop the spread of the Asian carp and other invasive species. It’s a costly step, but with the ecosystem and the fishing industry of the Great Lakes at stake, we believe there is really no other choice.
