THE THUMB — With populations and catch rates for lake trout, walleye, steelhead and other species hovering near record levels in
Lake Huron, the Department of Natural Resources is encouraging anglers to plan a trip to the lake this summer to take advantage of the rebound of this world-class fishery.
On the east side of
Huron County, Art Farden, owner of Let’s Go Fishing, says this has been an unusually good year.
“It’s been the best season in the last 10 years,” Farden says. He estimates there may be around three or four times as many fish. The walleye are big and “they showed up early,” Farden notes. During one recent weekend, he notes, the fishing was so good that there was scarcely a night crawler to be had in the area.
