Now get ready for the man who sailed the Great Loop.
Dennis Phillips, a 63-year-old pastor from Florida, decided that an 111-day boat trip around eastern North America was exactly what his summer was missing. And what’s a man to do when he’s found himself in that situation? Take to the sea, of course.
So with only his Bimini top to protect him, his phone to guide him, a two-burner propane stove to cook on, and a bucket to … use for … reasons …, he began his expedition. The loop he travelled includes the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal Waterways, the Hudson River, the Great Lakes, the Canadian Heritage Canals and the inland rivers of America’s heartland.
Travelling an average of 50 to 100 miles a day, Phillips finished his 111-day trip with both himself and his boat, In That 2, intact. And get this: that was his second time doing it. This time on a 17-foot Bayliner.
