The coast is the perfect place for boaters, but unfortunately, it’s also one of the most popular places for storms to hit. And when a storm hits, the last place you want to be is in the center of it. And yet, that’s where too many of our boating friends in Hurricane Harvey were.
Many businesses in the offshore fishing and marine industry were severely affected by Harvey, as some marinas, including Cove Harbor Marina in Rockport, suffered major boat pile-ups and damages.
To the rescue comes a committee of Houston Big Game Fishing Club members and others who are collecting donations for the Hurricane Harvey Sportfishing & Marine Industry Recovery Fund. The donations will be distributed directly to those affected by Harvey.
The fund’s website stated that “Priority will be given to those individuals and businesses that are the lifeblood of the fishing community — captains, mates, service technicians, dockworkers, craftsmen and support businesses.”
The club has already put in $20,000 from their charitable programs and welcomes all donations, no matter how small.
