In an article posted by the Weather Channel, the word from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other water monitoring offices indicates that the current high water levels on the Great Lakes are the highest they have been since 1988, and the water is likely to remain high for months.
In a statement from the article, chief of Watershed Hydrology at the Army Corps Detroit District, Keith Kompoltowicz said: "Above average precipitation on the Great Lakes and very wet conditions in the months of April and May pushed levels higher than originally forecasted."
