A great way to relax and become introduced to a fun and affordable lifestyle requires only a short drive to Harbor North Marina, 400 Huron Street in Huron, Ohio, which is hosting its ever popular Discover Sailing Weekend June 3-4.
This year’s event is held in observance of National Fishing and Boating Week, June 2-10, and also helps benefit the local United Way chapter. One-hour introductory sail rides are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis by members of Harbor North Marina both days from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public, however a donation of $10 per person is suggested for the sailboat rides. 100% of the donations go to support the local fund raising efforts for United Way.
“Each year we reach out to northern Ohio residents and hope to again introduce as many as 200 people to the beauty and enjoyment of recreational sailing during our Discover Sailing Weekend,” said Bruce Roberts, owner of Harbor North Marina. “This is a great opportunity to share our love of sailing with others, to showcase what Huron and Lake Erie offer as a destination area and continue our local support of United Way. We have been doing this for over 20 years now and always have had great support from the public”
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft reports that Ohio ranks in the top 10 nationally in the number of registered watercraft. An estimated three million Ohioans go boating each year.
In addition to its full-service marina, Harbor North offers an extensive program of basic through advanced hands-on sailing instruction programs and specialized sail training and charters. The marina and greater Huron area is conveniently located on Lake Erie’s western basin between Toledo and Cleveland with easy highway access and is in close proximity to the Lake Erie Islands.
