The 24-foot Grady White, now called VI Rings, has been renamed several times to reflect the number of Super Bowls won by Belichick as both a head coach and assistant coach. Now Belichick offers the boat to Newport’s non-profit public Sailing Center. The Center will use VI Rings as a support vessel for events such as the Volvo Ocean Race and also for youth and adult sailing programs, regattas and sailing events on Narragansett Bay.
Albury Brothers Boats facilitated the donation, and the boat is slated for delivery to Sail Newport in mid-February.Sail
Newport executive director Brad Read said of the generous donation: “We are thrilled and grateful to Coach Belichick for donating his boat for use in our public sailing programs. The boat will be used as a support and safety vessel for all of our instructional programs and regattas, including the May 7-20, 2018, North American stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race.”
